Chavagnes boys at the top of the tree!
The Annual UK Maths Challenge is aimed at the top one-third of Year 8 students in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and, as far as we know from a few sources, only select students are normally presented by schools.
The top 6% of the approximately 240,000 students presented receive a Gold Certificate, the next 13% receive a Silver Certificate and the next 21% achieve a Bronze certificate. There are seven Year 8 students at the college. Three of these apparently will receive a Gold Certificate, and two a Silver Certificate. The remaining two students did their best and did well also.
Our Year 8 Maths class (lot 8 boys) this year has netted three gold and two silver certificates in the 2009 Junior UK Maths Challenge. This puts them easily in the top 5-10% of their age group for mathematical ability.
These magnificent results represent a very significant achievement, and speak very well of the boys, their maths teacher, Mr Aldridge and Br Moylan who has spent much time preparting boys for the maths challenge outside of school time. The achievement is all the more impressive in this particular class in which several French boys have English only as a second language.

Well done, boys! And thanks to Mr Aldridge and Brother Moylan for all their help and encouragement.
