Today’s little sortie at Clisson …<\/p>\n
This came to mind:<\/p>\n
Jolly boating weather
\nAnd a hay harvest breeze,
\nBlade on the feather,
\nShade off the trees,
\nSwing, swing, together,
\nWith you bodies between your knees.<\/p>\n
Skirting past the rushes,
\nRuffling o’er the weeds
\nWhere the lock stream gushes
\nWhere the cygnet feeds.
\nLet us see how the wine-glass flushes
\nAt supper on Petite Maine’s meads.<\/p>\n
Harrow may be more clever,
\nRugby may make more row,
\nBut we’ll row, row forever,
\nSteady from stroke to bow,
\nAnd nothing in life shall sever
\nThe chain that is round us now.<\/p>\n
Others will fill our places,
\nDressed in the old light blue;
\nWe’ll recollect our races,
\nWe’ll to the flag be true,
\nAnd youth will be still in our faces,
\nWhen we cheer for a Chavvers crew.<\/p>\n
Twenty years hence this weather
\nWill tempt us from office stools.
\nWe may be slow on the feather,
\nAnd seem to the boys old fools,
\nBut we’ll still swing together,
\nAnd swear by the best of schools.<\/p>\n
