Ferdi McDermott, MA avec Honneurs, PGCE (CAPES), MA Ed, Membre Fondateur du Charted College of Teaching, Membre de la Royal Society of Arts, et de la Scotland Society of Antiquaries

Ferdi McDermott founded Chavagnes International College in 2002. A modern languages graduate of the University of Edinburgh, Mr McDermott is Headmaster of the College.  He teaches French, Latin and English. He founded the international Catholic cultural journal St Austin Review in 2000 and continues to research and publish on literary themes; he is currently undertaking research in Victorian poetry and completing a doctorate in Education. In addition to teaching at the College, he is also lecturer in English literature at the local Catholic university, ICES.

Patrick Long, BA, BTeach, MEd.

Patrick Long is Deputy Headmaster (Academic), with responsibility for curriculum, teaching and learning. He is a graduate of the celebrated Catholic liberal arts college, Campion College Australia and joined us in 2019 after five years teaching in the UK. Mr Long teaches Religious Education, English, History, Economics and sports. He lives in Chavagnes with his wife and their four children. In addition to teaching at the College, he is visiting lecturer at the local Catholic university, ICES.

Father Bede Rowe, OSB, MA(Oxon), PGCE, PhD.

Father Rowe is Chaplain to the College as well as teacher of Mathematics and Science. He is a keen walker and enjoys accompanying the pupils on country walks and pilgrimages. He is Prior of the monastic community at Chavagnes.

Father Anselm Redman, OSB, BA, MTh.

Father Redman is Chaplain to the College and teacher of Religious Education, English and Classics. He is in charge of sacramental preparation for pupils at the College.

John Hayes, MA (Oxon), MSc, PGCE (CAPES)

John Hayes graduated from Merton College, University of Oxford and continued there for his research degree and teacher training. He has taught in the USA and Spain, and speaks fluent French, Spanish and German. Mr Hayes began teaching at the college in 2003, and specialises in Mathematics.

Dr Thomas Conlon, BSc, MSc, PhD

Dr Thomas Conlon holds degrees from Queen’s University, Belfast and the University of Bristol. He has taught Mathematics, Physics and Latin at the College since 2003 after a career in the telecommunications industry. He served as Head Master from 2004-2006. He writes regularly on scientific, historical and literary themes and publishes books and articles on scientific themes, including:

Anna Luzgan, BA

Anna Luzgan is our matron and also works as a pedagogical assistant for all boys throughout the College.

Joshua Osborne, BSc

Mr Osborne, a former pupil of the College, is a recent graduate in Sports Performance and Coaching. He takes over as Head of Physical Education and Co-Curricular Activities in September 2024. He will also be teaching some science and running our scouting programme.

Dr Christine Baldauf-Lloyd, MRCVS

Dr Baldauf-Lloyd is a qualified veterinary surgeon who teaches Science and German. She first joined us 2003.

Louis Mabille, M ès Lettres

Louis Mabille is an experienced teacher of history in the French private sector. He is currently teaching French and History to the French boys at Chavagnes whilst pursuing doctoral research at the Institut Catholique d’Etudes Supérieures.

Nicholas Lloyd, MA (Cantab.), PGCE (CAPES), LTCM

M. Lloyd a enseigné la chimie, les sciences et la musique au Collège depuis 2003 et apporte désormais son soutien au chœur des élèves. Il est en outre organiste de notre Chapelle.

Gemma Haire, BA, PGCE.

Miss Haire joined the College in 2022. She teaches history and junior science.

Alvaro Barcia Gonzalez, MA. 

Mr Barcia first joined us in 2018. He teaches Spanish, History and Art. He also assists with sport and music.
